Cogno Vigna Elena Riserva Barolo 2018 ( JS97，RP94）

The Cogno Vigna Elena Riserva Barolo 2018 is one of Elvio Cogno's highly regarded flagship Barolos, belonging to the single-vineyard Riserva category, specifically crafted for long-term aging.

Style: Typical high-end Ravera terroir, with aromas ranging from rose petals, blood orange, and red sour cherry to spices, smoke, and mushrooms, exhibiting exceptional complexity. The acidity is crisp, and the tannins are firm yet fine.

Decanting: It is recommended to decan for at least 2–3 hours at this stage. The ideal drinking window is from 2026 onwards, gradually increasing to 2040+.

Food Pairing: Pairs well with braised beef, lamb rack, duck, truffle dishes, and mature, firm cheeses. Suitable as a fine wine or a collector's item.

Scoring Performance:

Wine Advocate (Robert Parker): Approximately 94 points. The evaluation emphasizes mature third-layer aromas such as smoky tar, woodland, dried flowers, vanilla, and mushrooms. The tannins are finely polished, and the structure is elegant.

James Suckling: High score (mid-to-low 90 points). Emphasis is placed on red cherry, rose, spice, and minerality. The palate is firm yet delicate, with strong aging potential.

Other reviews (such as Falstaff and Kerin O’Keefe) also gave very impressive high scores, generally considering it one of the most collectible Barolos of the 2018 vintage.
