The Gros family has been producing wine in Vosne-Romanee for more than 160 years, first under the name Domaine Gros-Renaudot, with top vineyards in important appellations such as Richebourg, Clos de Vougeot, Grand Echezeaux and Echezeaux. The family estate was divided into four parts in 1963, and the parts of the eldest daughter Collette and the eldest son Gustave were merged to form Domaine Gros Frere et Soeur. Since the two had no children (unmarried), they asked their nephew Jean's son Bernard Gros to help with winemaking in 1980. Since 1984, the business has been fully handed over to Bernard to run independently. Although Bernard is young, he grew up in a wine family and has been influenced by it since childhood. He has unique insights into vineyard management and winemaking. He subsequently purchased some very good vineyards in Hautes Cotes de Nuits, planting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. He also replanted nearly 90% of the vines in all the vineyards in pursuit of higher quality grapes. In terms of winemaking, he follows the family tradition while introducing modern equipment and techniques. All grapes are harvested and screened manually, and after 100% destemming, they are placed in large cement tanks for fermentation. All wines except Hautes Cotes de Nuits are aged in 100% new barrels. Hautes Cotes de Nuits uses barrels that have been used by Vonse-Romanee for 1 to 2 years.
