Story

Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay boasts an incredible 14 years in a row of 90+ points from Robert Parker and 24/25 years of 90+ from Wine Spectator. It’s too soon for this just-released Chardonnay but be assured, the accolades will be flowing in no short order. Crafted by long-time Master of Wine Michael Brajkovich MW... one of the world's finest exponents of the Chardonnay grape. Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay is an underpriced beautifully refined Chardonnay that has trounced many expensive white Burgundies in blind tastings presided over by the world’s finest critics. Styled like a Puligny Montrachet with amazing purity, a hint of luxury and seductive elegance.

Fruit for the Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay is drawn from six different vineyard sites in the Kumeu Region. Only the very best, hand-harvested, grapes from these vineyards are selected for the Kumeu River Estate label. At the winery the grapes are whole-bunch pressed, fermentation is 100% barrel and 100% malo-lactic with 11 months maturation in barrel. The Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay is particularly ripe, peachy and not only delicious to drink, but also has the concentration and lingering complexity that you can expect from this wine. This is quality Chardonnay of style and pedigree that has the capability of aging as well as any of its predecessors.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Subtle grapefruit and florals over pure peach, nectarine, biscuit, hazelnut and hints of toasty vanilla.

Taste: Enthralling, vivacious and very concentrated. It deliciously fattens out to reveal a creamy core of mid-palate flavour before pirouetting to a long beguiling finish laced with pure stonefruit and delicious mealy, nutty complexities.
