Maison Marchand Tawse Beaune 1er Cru Les Teurons 2020

Pascal Marchand, Canadian by birth and from Quebec, became known as a 'flying winemaker' in Australia and Chile, but because of his passion for Bougogne and the advice of the legendary Henri Jayer, he came to France in 1983 to actually become a winemaker in his favorite region . He was directly inspired by the young generation of pioneers, who started using organic and biodynamic methods.

The Pascal Marchand-Tawse 1er Cru Le Clos du Roi is a 100% Pinot Noir located in the Premier Cru Bourgogne Le Clos du Roi. This terrain is characterized by a stony, sandy and very permeable soil. The vines have an average age of 45 years. 50% of the hand-harvested grapes are destemmed and 50% of the entire bunch receive a cold maceration for seven days with 2 x a pigeage per day at the start of the alcoholic fermentation, then pumped over during the macaration for a gentle extraction for approx. 18 to dawn. The wine then matures for 18 months in 30% new oak and 85% used oak. The barrels are made of French oak and are barrels from Allier, Jupilles and Nevers. The wine is not clarified or filtered. This 1er Cru Le Clos du Roi has a beautiful ruby red color. A fine hint of dark chocolate clings to the dark cherry fruit on the nose. The palate contains those same, dark berries and cherries, aromatic and luscious. Fine tannins and clear freshness ensure a balanced wine with good storage potential. The finish has a nice hint of licorice and a mineral touch.
