Mortlach Special Releases 2023 The Katana's Edge

Mortlach Special Releases 2023 Single Malt Scotch Whisky, a signature Mortlach from Diageo's annual special release series, is titled "The Katana's Edge." Inspired by a Japanese sword, it emphasizes the contrasting flavors of sweetness and umami.

From the Speyside distillery in Dufftown, this non-age-tested Mortlach whisky boasts a cask strength of 58% ABV and is bottled in limited quantities. A portion of the whisky was matured in ex-Kanosuke Japanese whisky casks and ex-Pinot Noir red wine casks, resulting in a unique blended style.

Aromas: Ripe melons, pears, and tropical fruits, accompanied by notes of cooked meat, cloves, earthy red chili peppers, and black pepper—an elegant contrast.

Palmistry: Pear candy, toffee pudding, orange peel, almond candy, and rich soy sauce umami; full-bodied and complex.

Finish: Long and spicy, with honey, pepper, and nutty finishes—a perfect balance of sweet and salty.

Drinking suggestions: Enjoy neat or with a little water to release the fruity aroma. Best paired with Asian cuisine, barbecued meat, or chocolate desserts. Enjoy neat to showcase the full power of the barrel.
