Description
🥃Bruichladdich Islay Barley Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky 2013🥃
This Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2013 is the eighth edition of a peated, locally grown single malt whiskey that demonstrates our enduring commitment to the origin of our barley. While each expression of each growing season is subtle, a signature marine citrus and barley-forward style has developed in these complex single malts.
Our latest vintage of peated Bruichladdich Islay barley was harvested from the 2012 growing season and subsequently distilled in 2013.
The barley is grown on seven island farms, including Hunter Jackson at Cruach, Andrew and Donald Jones at Coull, Mark French at Rockside, Ian McKerrell at Island, Alistair Torrance at Mulindry, Raymond Fletcher at Dunlossit and Raymond Stewart at Sunderland.
The resulting spirit is aged for eight years in ex-American and ex-European oak barrels.
Nose:The freshness and purity of the spirit is amazing. Aromas of citrus and honey begin, followed by stone fruit, dried apricots and ripe peaches. Sweet notes of marzipan, yellow flowers and vanilla pods are followed by a zeal of spice, grain and sea breeze. The oak builds up over time with notes of vanilla, creme brulee, caramel and woody spices. Then hints of cinnamon, gingerbread and treacle add to the anticipation of the tasting.
Palate:Delicate sweetness and luscious mouth feel like a velvety mouthfeel. Sweet, ripe stone fruit flavors are well balanced with oaky vanilla, caramel and brown sugar. Add a little water and watch the natural oils react in the glass, releasing wonderful floral notes of hawthorn and heather, adding complexity and depth to this extraordinary single malt whisky.
Finish:Subtle maritime flavors combine with sweet citrus and honey oak. Long and mild finish.
