Coudoulet de Beaucastel Rouge Cotes du Rhone AOC 2018

The 30-hectare Coudoulet is located east of the Beaucastel vineyards on the other side of the A7 motorway. For reasons that are now obvious, Coudulet is generally considered to be the baby Beaucastel. Coudoulet soils have many similarities to Beaucastel. It is made of molasse seabed covered by alpine diluvial sediments. These pebbles, known as "Galets Roulés", perform an important function: they absorb heat during the day and slowly dissipate it at night, which gives the vines a good start in spring.

Nine years usually mark a winegrower's memory and this vintage was no exception. After the early buds opened in early April, flowering in all vineyards was gradual in good conditions. Then a hot summer began in late June, and the vines bravely resisted: they suffered little to no water stress thanks to the chamomile herbal infusion that we sprayed on the plants to cope with the heat. In the end, the harvest went on as usual without any particular precocity. These wines are promising; once again the 9 year vintage has been led by lucky stars.

The Perrin family are true master mixologists, representing the authenticity of the terroir and combining concentration and elegance for the Chinese palate: fruity and silky textures. When Perrin bought the chateau in 1909, Coudoulet was the appellation of the CDP, the same terroir as the Beaucastel CDP, and great value for money.

Each variety is harvested individually by hand and then sorted in the cellar. The harvest is heated to 80°C (husks), then cooled to 20°C. The classic maceration takes place in cement tanks for 12 days. push into
