Description

Located in the heart of the Boutenac terroir in Corbières, the Domaine de Villemajou offered Gérard Bertrand a special place. The estate is known for its very old vines of Carignan, a Mediterranean grape variety. Special soils allow deep roots and protect the vineyards from the excesses of the Mediterranean climate (moisture stress, storms).

The vineyard has great attention to detail and is obsessed with producing the highest quality ripe, healthy fruit. The fruit is picked by hand and then "double" screened on the table. The vinification process is applied to each grape variety: Carignan and Shiraz wines are vinified without crushing according to the principle of carbonic maceration (10 to 18 days). Grenache is vinified following the traditional maceration process after crushing the fruit (15 - 20 days). The wine is then transferred to oak barrels to age for 10 to 12 months, depending on the vintage. The wines are kept for another 6 months before being bottled.

The nose is complex, with notes of jam, sweet spices, leather and coffee.

On the palate it is round and sweet, with beautiful fruit flavors and fine tannins. Very well balanced, this is a wine with good aging potential.
