Domaine Guillemot Michel Vire Clesse Retour A La Terre 2022
94 points/'Le Coup de Coeur, La Revue du Vin de France :
"What a great white wine Retour a la Terre is! Produced from a late-ripening plot, this jar-aged wine expresses itself unvarnished, with all the juicy sparkle of ripe fruit, between pear and mirabelle plum. Unctuous without heaviness, generous without opulence, it's a great seducer. (2025)"
In 2022, a new millennium mill design will be launched on the Argiles de Champ-Rond, experimenting with the potential. La canicule de Juillet has passed, and it produced many wonderful bays, as well as precious aromatics and rich fragrances. In 2022, Retour à la Terre presents a beautiful Millennium release, featuring two original parfaits of the cuvée: rich in phenols and refined (12.9%).
2022 is another drought-affected vintage in which the potential of the Champ-Rond clay soils was fully realized. The heatwave in July did no harm, producing golden berries with thick skins and rich aromatic precursors.
Domaine Guillemot Michel
The winery is located in the heart of the Viré Cléssé appellation, one of the three largest wineries in the Mâcon region. After studying viticulture and enology, Pierrette Michel and Marc Guillemot took over the winery in 1985 from Pierrette’s parents. Since their arrival, the estate’s heritage has remained intact: 6.5 hectares of old Chardonnay vines, all spread out on the hillsides of Quintaine. The vines were converted to organic farming and in 1991 the couple quickly became involved in biodynamic farming. As pioneers of the movement in the region, the winegrowers are waging a major battle: respecting the soil. Therefore, any use of synthetic phytosanitary products in the vines is replaced by botanical preparations grown in Pierrette’s vegetable garden (horsetail, nettle, alfalfa, thyme, oregano, savory, etc.). Indigenous yeasts and bacteria then work naturally in the cellar, with alcoholic fermentation taking place in concrete vats, followed by malolactic fermentation. Finally, the wine is aged on its lees until it is bottled in early summer. Today, Macon Quintaine has reached a certain level of balance: concentration and flavor. Marc and Pierrette have now handed over the company to their daughter Sophie and her partner Gauthier. The range was subsequently expanded to include the vibrant Marc de Bourgogne. Mâconnais proves its revolution once again!
