This history begins in 1725 when Marie Braneyre, the only daughter of the founder of Branaire-Ducru, married Pierre Du Luc, advisor to King Louis XV.The family of the second owner, Pierre Du Luc, kept the property for two centuries. When Jean-Baptiste Braneyr acquired the estate in 1680, it was a remarkable property.
Duluc, the second wine of Château Branaire-Ducru 4th growth since 1855, was born in the 1990s. The wine is mainly composed of grapes from vines under 15 years old, respecting the "signature of the house", obtaining as much as possible.
The vineyard is located in a historic terroir, on the most beautiful gravel ridge in the city of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle.
The balance of plots per varietal is preserved as the estate keeps the age of the vines at 35 years and strives to quietly renew generations at a rate of two to three hectares per year.
In Branaire-Ducru, the requirements and expressions of "house style" apply to both labels, Branaire-Ducru for premium wines and Duluc de Branaire-Ducru for second wines.
Grapes with the highest potential are often found in great wines. Others, especially those from the estate's youngest vineyards, form the backbone of Duluc de Branaire-Ducru.
In both cases, the grapes came from vineyards located in the St. Julian's appellation. The grapes are produced in the same way and the grapes are vinified to the same standards.
The final choice can only be decided after repeated tastings of all vats and an appreciation of their deep character.
The wines of Branaire-Ducru have pure fruit flavors and have a structure and fusion character that can be aged for a long time.
The wine spends an average of 18 months in oak barrels and rests in cellars before entering the market.
Duluc de Branaire-Ducru, is made from the estate's younger grapes and has a more approachable style than the older vintages.
Impressive structure and aromatic balance, a supple wine, full of freshness, so it does not need to be aged for too long, suitable for early drinking, eight to ten years is already a good drinking period.
