Finn Thomson North British 35 Years Old Single Grain Scotch Whisky

This 35 year old Miltonduff is one of a kind. Added to the collection while my grandfather was still producing his famous Golden Beneagles blend, it is the only Miltonduff cask remaining from this bygone era.

Miltonduff is rarely encountered as a single malt, and old expressions like this are almost impossible to find. This is a cask that showcases the true heart of the distillery.

Matured in a refill hogshead, the 35 years of ageing have allowed the fruity and floral distillery character to deepen while still remaining delicate and not overly dominated by wood. More than three decades of maturation has produced hints of zesty lime and aromatic spices, while notes of star anise and liquorice add even more fragrant complexity to this gentle giant.

These 220 bottles will never be repeated. It is a cask with which I am sad to part but delighted to share. An inimitable Rare release.

Finn Thomson is a Scotch whisky independent bottler that is 300 years in the making. Since James Thomsons illicit potstill in the 1700s, the Thomson family has pursued a different element of whisky through the ages – distilling, blending, trading, selling – helping to shape the very story of Scotch itself.

With three centuries of family whisky history and personal tutelage from some of the most respected names in the Scottish whisky industry, Finn may stand on the shoulders of giants. But the weight of decision rests on his own.

Finn is responsible for calling the moment when a whisky’s flavours are at their finest; quirks and eccentricities at their most beguiling. Whether it’s a decades-old cask from the family collection or an entirely new creation, this is art as much as science. Wood, water and weather have had their say. The only guides that count now are taste, scent and intuition.
