Description

Laphroaig An Cuan Mòr, a 48% limited-edition Islay single malt. First matured in a bourbon barrel, then transferred to European oak, it combines classic medicinal peat and sea breeze notes with layers of stewed dried fruit and spices. The nose reveals iodine, campfire ash, sea salt, fig, and roasted apricots; the palate is full-bodied and juicy, with dry mineral peat paired with candied fruit, caramel, ginger, and black pepper; the finish is long with sweet peat and wood smoke. Slightly less sweet than PX, with more spiciness and a marine character, it's a top 5 Laphroaig for many.

Aroma: Very typical Laphroaig: iodine, ointment, gauze, campfire ash, plus dried seaweed and salty sea breeze.

Also has a sweet side: fig, raisins, roasted sweet apricots, honey, vanilla, almonds/nuts, with a touch of minerality and waxiness.

Palate: Medium to full-bodied with a strong "chewy" feel; the 48% alcohol content is concentrated but not harsh on the throat.

On the palate, it's dry, mineral, and peat-like, with Laphroaig's signature ash, sea salt, and medicinal base, topped with stewed jam, candied fruit, caramel, and warm spices (ginger, pepper, licorice).

Some describe it as a "premium version of Triple Wood" because it also features stewed fruit and peat, but with added burnt apricot from European oak, raisins, nuts, and leatheriness.

Finish: Medium to long, full of sweet peat, campfire smoke, spices, and seaweed and sea breeze; the finish is slightly dry with oak tannins.
