The Royal Lochnagar distillery neighbours the Balmoral Castle, which if you are not aware is home to the Queen when she visits Scotland. The distiller offers incredible tours and is one of the best distilleries to visit to discover how scotch whisky is made. The distillery is the last remaining distillery on Deeside and was built in 1826 by a gentleman called John Begg. The name for the distillery was taken from a mountain nearby made famous by Lord Byron who used to immortalised the peak in a poem, which was then turned into a song. The distillery mainly produces whisky for the use in blends and currently creates 450,000 litres per year. It has grown quite rapidly since being first built going through 4 major renovations.
