信樂燒 Shigaraki ware Sake Set 🍶 (1 Tokkuri Sake Bottle + 2 Ochoko Sake Cups)

信樂燒 Shigaraki ware is one of Japan’s six ancient kilns, originating from Shigaraki Town in Shiga Prefecture, with a history of over 1,300 years dating back to the Nara period.

Made from coarse local clay and fired at high temperatures in wood-fired kilns, the surface features natural ash glaze, reddish fire marks, and unique scorch patterns, giving it a rustic, warm texture. The porous clay helps mellow and enhance the flavor of sake or shochu, making it perfect for enjoying Japanese spirits.

Each piece is handmade and unique, celebrated for its “imperfect” beauty, blending practicality with aesthetics—loved by collectors and sake fans alike.

Every piece is crafted by artisans, so just like people, each has its own character. Shigaraki’s clay is rougher and richer in minerals like silica than other regions, so the texture varies with the era.

Seasonal and temperature changes also affect the firing process, creating a variety of natural effects unique to Shigaraki ware. Using these different materials, we express the special qualities of earthenware and pottery that can’t be found elsewhere.

That’s why Shigaraki ware is less an industrial product, and more a work of art created in harmony with the seasons, people, and nature.
