Château Mouton Rothschild 2006 (RP96) is a classic, well-structured First Growth Pauillac red wine that's now being enjoyed and still has great aging potential. Robert Parker gave it 96 points (96+), describing it as a "large-scale, extremely pure, and very long-lived Mouton."

Style and Key Evaluation Points (RP96): The grape blend is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, with a small amount of Merlot, showcasing the classic Pauillac style typical of the Left Bank: blackcurrant, graphite, and cedar.

Parker emphasizes that the 2006 Mouton has "extraordinary purity and clarity," with very clean and concentrated blackcurrant fruit aromas, along with complex layers of floral, graphite, tobacco, and a hint of truffle.

The structure is described as "large-scaled, massive Mouton Rothschild," with firm yet fine tannins and pronounced acidity, requiring extensive aging to fully open up.

Aging Stage and Drinking Recommendations

Parker recommended at least 15 years of aging before drinking, anticipating an exceptionally long drinking window. Some reviews even compared it to the 1986 Mouton, considering it another aged vintage.

As of 2026, it will be approximately 20 years old, essentially past its "lock-in" period, entering a golden age that is enjoyable yet still relatively young:
