Akkeshi 厚岸啓蟄 Keichitsu Single Malt Japanese Whisky 2023

Akkeshi began distilling in the Akkeshi district of Hokkaido in 2016, and the concept of distilling and maturing single malt whisky in the wilds of northern Japan dates back to the first plans of Masataka Taketsuru, an early pioneer in Japanese whisky production.

The Japanese call the 3rd day of their 24 solar terms "Qi-zhe", which represents the warming of the earth and hibernating insects emerging from their holes to feel the arrival of spring, which is the inspiration for the label.

Like a chrysalis that survives the cold and transforms into a beautiful butterfly, Akkeshi malt is layered with rich and mellow flavours.

Please enjoy Akkeshi whisky full of soft sweetness and peaty flavor under the soft sunshine of spring.

The main malt is Akkeshi malt, made from Hokkaido barley, distilled in Akkeshi, then aged in Hokkaido oak and bourbon barrels.

This time, the feeling of peat was stronger. Made from 4-year-aged whisky, this single malt whisky expresses the peaty and salty flavors of Akkeshi's unique aging environment, with a full-bodied main flavour.

Citrus fruits such as dates, hassaku, mandarin oranges, brown sugar, mitarai dango, lemongrass, orange, lemon-like sweetness and sourness, manuka honey, white pepper, black tea, salted lemon, caramel-like bitterness and sweetness.
