Description
Ardbeg Arrrrrrrdbeg Committee Release is a limited-edition Islay single malt whisky released in 2021 as a tribute to former distillery manager Mickey Heads. It is matured entirely in ex-rye casks and bottled at 51.8% ABV.

ABV: 51.8%, bottled at high strength.

Casing: The first Ardbeg whisky matured entirely in ex-rye casks.

Nature: Exclusively for Ardbeg Committee members, a tribute to Mickey Heads' retirement after 13 years at the helm. The label features him as a pirate captain, making it highly recognizable.

Flavor Profile: Based on official descriptions and multiple retail/tasting notes, Arrrrrrrdbeg's key characteristics are "sweet fruit flavors + rye spice + light to medium peat."

Aroma (Nose): Smoked banana, pear, and melon, blended with rye bread, vanilla toffee, and a hint of anise.

Adding water releases aromas of lemon, lime, sorbet, and sweet shortbread/dessert; the smokiness is a subtle background rather than the main focus.

Palate: The initial taste is spice-based (from rye): a slight spiciness accompanied by the sweet and sour flavors of pear, melon, and kiwi.

This is followed by a strong burst of anise/starch, combined with smoked toffee and sourdough roll flavors; the texture is creamy and quite smooth.

Finish: Salty sea spray, Brazil nuts, a hint of smoke and roasted nuts; the finish is long but not overly peaty.

Ardbeg's first 100% ex-rye cask, matured in rye whisky casks, brings out the sweet and sour notes of rye bread, spices, sourdough, and fruits, making it a more "experimental and playful" creation.
