Description
🥃Benromach Peat Smoke 2009 - 2020 Bourbon Cask🥃
Intense smoky and peaty flavors. Aged for over a decade in fresh first-fill bourbon casks, this whisky exhibits the elegant fruitiness typical of Benromach, with distinct smoky and peaty notes. Drawing water from Chapeltown springs, Benromach is one of many Speyside distilleries designed by the famous Charles Doig. Charles Doig is an Elgin-based architect who also has credits for Aberlour, Dufftown and Balblair. The Paramount, which takes its name from the Gaelic word for "shaggy mountain", closed and reopened in the 1930s. It was sealed in 1983. It wasn't until a decade later that Gordon and MacPhail bought the distillery from United Distillers. After the purchase, Gordon and MacPhail saw it as their flagship distillery in the old Speyside style. A heavier Peated malt is used for a more full-bodied spirit.

The ambition of John Urquhart and descendants of the Urquhart family has always been that Gordon & MacPhail one day be able to own and manage their own distillery. This dream became a reality in 1993 when the company acquired Forres' Benromach Distillery. At the time the distillery was nearly abandoned, with all fixtures and fittings dismantled and sold by the previous owner. Drawing on generations of expertise in the whisky industry, Benromach was meticulously and painstakingly re-equipped to recommence operations before it was officially reopened in 1998 by HRH Prince Charles. Just two experienced distillers brew Benromach using the finest Scottish barley and the purest spring water from the nearby Romach Hills. They personally ensure that only the highest quality spirits are bottled in solid oak barrels before being aged for many years at the Benromach Distillery.
