Description
Bowmore 21 Year Old Sherry Oak Cask is a 21-year-old Islay single malt Scotch whisky from the Bowmore Sherry Oak Cask Collection, and the oldest in the series. The whisky was first matured for 21 years in American oak bourbon casks and European oak Oloroso sherry casks, and finally finished in first-fill Pedro Ximénez (PX) sherry casks, bottled at 46.8% ABV in 700ml bottles. It is not a single cask whisky, nor is it a pure sherry cask whisky, but rather a combination of bourbon, Oloroso, and PX finish casks.

Style: Aromas include tobacco leaf, heather, beeswax, leather, ginger, toffee, molasses, peat, and a hint of iodine. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, rich and rounded. Layers of toffee, vanilla, syrup, orange peel, cinnamon, nutmeg, roasted meat, cranberries, and stewed rhubarb unfold, with Bowmore's signature gentle peaty smoke permeating the entire piece without overpowering the sherry fruitiness.

The PX Finish offers dried fruit sweetness, roundness, and a deeper layer of sherry; Oloroso provides nutty, woody spices, and a dry framework. The finish features sweet wood, gentle smoke, spices, and a savory character, with a long and balanced finish. Officially described as having aromas of tobacco, heather, beeswax, cranberries, roasted meat, and a hint of savory smoke, the finish continuing with sweet wood and gentle smoke.
