Château Canon 2019 Winery Introduction

Château Canon is located in Saint-Émilion on the right bank of Bordeaux, France, and is a Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé B (First Growth Classification). The winery's vineyards are situated on south- to southwest-facing clay-limestone highlands, with 24 hectares dedicated solely to the production of Château Canon. The average age of the vines is approximately 30 years.

Currently owned by the Chanel Group, the winery has recently placed great emphasis on vineyard details, zoned vinification, and a low-intervention philosophy, resulting in Château Canon's style gradually shifting from a traditionally full-bodied character to one that is more precise, refined, and mineral-rich.

2019 Vintage Overview

2019 was a relatively hot and dry vintage, but Château Canon successfully retained excellent acidity, vibrant fruit flavors, and fluidity. The official tasting notes describe the wine as having ripe and vibrant red fruit aromas, with strawberry, raspberry, and Morello cherry at its heart. On the palate, it is juicy, smooth, and energetic.

This vintage is a blend of 74% Merlot and 26% Cabernet Franc. Merlot contributes ripe black and red fruit, a round body, and a soft texture; Cabernet Franc provides violet, vanilla, minerality, acidity, and structure, preventing the wine from becoming overly heavy despite the hot weather of 2019.

On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with concentrated yet refreshing fruit flavors, smooth and fine tannins, and a finish with limestone minerality, spice, and a hint of chocolate. The overall style is elegant, precise, juicy, and deep, showing a greater balance than Saint-Émilion wines that simply pursue fullness.
