Chateau d'Yquem 'Y' (Ygrec) 2021 is the rare dry white wine from the legendary Sauternes estate, Chateau d’Yquem. Crafted only in select vintages, 'Y' skillfully integrates a touch of botrytis-affected grapes, offering freshness, aromatic depth, and precision. The 2021 stands out as an exceptional vintage for this iconic Bordeaux Blanc.
The 2021 'Y' uses estate fruit, with meticulously selected grapes—some carrying a trace of noble rot. Fermentation and aging take place in French oak barrels (about 50% new), blending the brightness of Sauvignon Blanc with the texture and roundness of Sémillon. Residual sugar is low, providing texture without perceived sweetness, and a saline-mineral finish brings length and energy.
Aroma: Tropical fruits (mango, white peach), grapefruit, pepper, white flowers, vanilla, subtle ginger and cardamom; delicate trace of botrytis.
Palate: Medium to full-bodied, silky texture, vivid yet balanced acidity, layers of citrus and minerals. Shows a harmonious mix of concentration, precision, and refreshing finish.
Pairing suggestion: Pairs well with seafood, white meats, and soft cheeses; suitable for mid-term cellaring.
