Winery Background

CVNE, short for Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, was founded in Haro in 1879 and is one of the most representative traditional wineries in Rioja. Imperial is the winery's most classic series, with grapes primarily sourced from the premium Rioja Alta vineyards and aged in Haro's historic cellars.

Imperial Gran Reserva is characterized by retaining the elegance and aging potential of traditional Rioja. Through long-term barrel and bottle aging, it develops complex layers of red fruit, vanilla, smoke, leather, and spice. The winery emphasizes that this wine is only released in exceptional harvest years and is designed for long aging.

Vintage and Drinking Recommendations

The 2012 Rioja was rated Very Good. Although it was a warmer vintage overall, the 2012 wine is fresher than the 2011. Reviews generally agree that this Imperial Gran Reserva has begun to show maturity, with soft tannins and leathery notes, making it very enjoyable to drink now.
