Dom Pérignon 2018 Introduction

Dom Pérignon Vintage 2018 is the brand's 48th vintage Champagne and the first vintage under the personal direction of current Cellar Director Vincent Chaperon. 2018 was a sunny and ripe year, with harvesting beginning on August 17th, one of the few Dom Pérignon vintages to be harvested in August.

This vintage is overall fuller, rounder, and more mature, while still retaining Dom Pérignon's signature acidity, minerality, and precision. It received a 99-point score from James Suckling, 94 points from Wine Advocate, and 98 points from Vinous.

Wine Style

Aromas are dominated by jasmine, honeysuckle, lemon, mandarin orange, white peach, apricot, and apple, with hints of lavender, ginger, lychee, dried apple, and a touch of toasted bread. The wine has a fine, foamy palate, a medium to full body, a smooth and enveloping texture, lively acidity, and a finish with hints of bitter lemon, minerality, and savory saltiness.

The 2018 Dom Pérignon is characterized by its "ripe and full-bodied character, yet still light and dynamic." Compared to some cooler vintages, it is not particularly sharp, but rather possesses more ripe fruit notes, a rounder palate, and a broader mid-palate. JS99 specifically mentions its floral aromas, perfectly integrated bubbles, delicate phenolic notes, and vibrant finish.

Flavor Highlights: Aromas: Jasmine, honeysuckle, lemon, apricot, citrus, apple, and lavender.

Palmistry: Fine foam, medium to full body, round and textured.

Acidity: Lively and bright, maintaining good tension.

Finish: Ginger, dried apple, lychee, bittersweet lemon, and minerality.

Style: Ripe, full-bodied, precise, and elegant. Aging potential: It is already quite appealing to drink now, and can also be aged until the 2040s.
