Domaines Barons de Rothschild Légende Pauillac 2014
Légende Pauillac is part of the Les Légendes R range from Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), designed to offer an accessible taste of Pauillac, with a portion of the wine sourced from family vineyards at Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Duhart-Milon. In the successful 2014 Pauillac vintage, this Cabernet‑Sauvignon‑based blend shows classic Left Bank character with blackcurrant, cedar, spice and cocoa, medium‑to‑full body and firm yet approachable structure, making it a smart entry point into Pauillac.
Vinification & Style
Légende Pauillac comes from Pauillac, Bordeaux, France, and is an AOC Pauillac red crafted by the DBR Lafite winemaking team, using selected parcels and lots, some from the family’s Lafite Rothschild and Duhart‑Milon vineyards. The blend is built on Cabernet Sauvignon (around 70%) with Merlot (around 30%), reflecting the appellation’s classic Cabernet‑driven structure softened by Merlot’s round fruit. Fermentation takes place in temperature‑controlled stainless steel, followed by ageing in French oak barrels, including barrels made in Lafite’s own cooperage, bringing notes of cedar, vanilla and cocoa while preserving fresh black fruit and mineral backbone; alcohol sits around 13–13.5%.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep ruby‑garnet, bright and clear with good concentration.
Nose: Blackcurrant, blackberry and dried redcurrant, with cedar, pencil‑lead, black pepper, dried herbs and earthy nuances, plus hints of cocoa powder, coffee and a touch of tobacco and leather — very Pauillac in style.
Palate: Medium‑to‑full bodied. The attack delivers cassis, blackberry and red plum, framed by fresh acidity and firm but not aggressive tannins. Mid‑palate shows cedar, toasted wood, black pepper, cocoa and a subtle smoky/mineral edge, giving a straight, classical Left Bank profile.
Finish: Medium‑long, with lingering dried fruits, black pepper, cocoa and cedar, and dry, savoury tannins giving a clean, food‑friendly finish.
Serving & Pairing
Decanting: 45–60 minutes recommended at this stage of evolution.
Serving temperature: 16–18°C.

Special Info: Created in 1999, the Les Légendes R range aims to showcase the identity of key Bordeaux appellations at accessible prices, with DBR Lafite applying its selection expertise and barrel ageing know‑how; the Pauillac bottling, partly sourced from Lafite and Duhart‑Milon vineyards, is often described as an “everyday Pauillac” gateway into the style of the appellation.
