Description

Distillery Background and Characteristics

History and Location: Fettercairn Distillery, founded in 1824, is located in the northeastern Scottish Highlands (near Stonehaven)

and is one of the earliest distilleries in Scotland to obtain a legal distilling license.

Tropical Style: The distillery is renowned for producing Highland single malt whiskies with a distinct tropical house style.

Scottish Oak Craftsmanship: A key highlight of this 18-year-old is its finishing process using 100% Scottish oak casks,

showcasing a unique spice and woody structure.

Nose: The aroma is rich and layered, exuding tropical fruit notes such as candied almonds, passion fruit, and guava, interwoven with aromas of roasted spices (cinnamon, cloves), fresh brioche, caramelized apples, dark chocolate, and roasted coffee beans, with a base of subtle minty and eucalyptus herbal coolness.

Palate: Full and oily on the palate, sweet tropical jam (pineapple, mango, papaya) and caramel cream and toffee flavors bloom first, then enveloped by the spices (ginger, white pepper, dried chili) and woody tannins of Scottish oak; the mid-palate reveals complex layers of biscuit, hazelnut, blackberry jam and vanilla cake.

Finish: Medium to long, finishing warm and dry, with persistent spice, dark chocolate, Earl Grey astringency and a hint of smoky woody sweetness, with tropical fruit notes lingering in the finish.
