Distillery Background and Characteristics

History and Location: Founded in 1824, Fettercairn Distillery is located in the northeastern Scottish Highlands (near Stonehaven) and is one of the earliest distilleries in Scotland to obtain a legal distilling license.

Tropical Style: The distillery is renowned for producing Highland single malt whiskies with a distinctive tropical house style.

Fettercairn 22 Years Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a classic, high-aged flagship whisky from the Scottish Highland distillery Fettercairn. It is famous for being matured in 100% first-fill ex-bourbon casks, showcasing the distillery's signature tropical fruit style and elegant woody structure.

Aroma (Nose): The aroma is extremely sweet and exuberantly fruity, with bursts of ripe banana, pineapple, and mango, interwoven with rich, dried fruit sweetness from candied apricot, peach jam, plum, and dried fig. The base notes are accompanied by vanilla cream, honeycomb, butter cake, gingerbread, cinnamon, and white pepper, along with subtle hints of cedarwood and hay.

Palate: Rich and full-bodied with a smooth texture, the palate opens with a burst of sweet tropical fruit smoothie (banana, pineapple, mango) and vanilla custard, quickly enveloped by spices (ginger, cinnamon, cloves) and woody tannins. The mid-palate reveals complex layers of caramelized orange, candied fruit peel, black coffee, licorice, and candied cherry, with a perfect balance of fruit and woody spices.

Finish: Medium to long, finishing warm and dry with lingering spice notes, dark chocolate, licorice, treacle, and a subtle smoky woody finish, with tropical fruit notes subtly emerging in the final notes.
