Finn Thomson Caol Ila 17 Years Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Our collection is incredibly fortunate to include a number of 2006 Caol Ila casks that has allowed me to conduct a range of different cask finishes and explore how various wood types complement the spint from this iconic Islay distillery.

In September 2020, I decided to re-rack this Caol Ila into an American Oak Oloroso sherry cask, seeking the ultimate balance between the fruity sherry and that hallmark briney Caol Ila smoke.

Over the course of three years, the American Oak has added a vanilla complexity to the nuttiness of the Oloroso sherry.

Combined with the rich Cal a spirit, it has created a luxurious resinous quality to the liquid, taking on an almost syrupy character that coats the mouth.

The result is a whisky that flaunts a beautiful balance between distillery character and cask influence, which will win the hearts of both peat and sherry lovers alike:

Finn Thomson is a Scotch whisky independent bottler that is 300 years in the making.
