Hennessy Private Reserve 1865 is a limited-edition reissue cognac launched by Hennessy in 2005, inspired by a privately reserved recipe created in 1865 to commemorate the centenary of Hennessy's founding. It is not distilled in 1865, nor is it a single-vintage cognac; rather, it is a blend of rare eaux-de-vie from the Grande Champagne region, paying homage to the original recipe.

According to available information, this cognac is composed of 11 Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie, some of which have been aged for a considerable period. Older sources state that the youngest eaux-de-vie were matured for at least 60 years, and it contains a small amount of eaux-de-vie from 1865. Because this is a historical reissue and limited edition, information regarding the proportions and ages of the eaux-de-vie is primarily available from wine merchants and collectors; it is inappropriate to label the entire bottle as "1865 vintage" or "all 60 years old."

Flavor Profile: This wine is characterized by its refined, elegant, and aged Grande Champagne style. Aromas include white flowers, lime blossom, herbs, vanilla pastries, and marzipan, which develop into candied cherry, orange peel, cedar, and sandalwood. On the palate, it is initially round and full-bodied, followed by sweet spices and candied citrus, with a delicate and lingering finish.
