Description

Joseph Faiveley Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2021

Joseph Faiveley Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2021 is a regional-level red Burgundy from the Bourgogne appellation. The wine is produced by Domaine Faiveley, one of Burgundy’s largest and most respected family-owned estates, based in Nuits-Saint-Georges and led by the 7th generation of the Faiveley family.

Vinification & Style
Made from 100% Pinot Noir, the grapes come from parcels mainly located in the Côte de Nuits. The wine is matured for around six months in oak casks previously used for the estate’s Premier and Grand Cru wines, adding subtle structure without overt oak flavour. The style is fresh, fruity and well-structured, with fine round tannins and bright acidity typical of a cool, classic vintage like 2021.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Beautiful ruby red.
Nose: Pleasant, fresh aromas of red cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry and subtle spice.
Palate: Medium-bodied, with juicy cherry and raspberry flavours framed by earth, mineral and spice elements. Fine, round tannins and bright acidity give balance and lift.
Finish: Clean and persistent, with a long, cherry-stained aftertaste.

Professional Reviews
Bruce Sanderson awarded the 2021 Faiveley Bourgogne Pinot Noir 90 points, describing it as silky and elegant, exuding juicy cherry and raspberry flavours framed by earth, mineral and spice elements, balanced and firm, with a long, cherry-stained aftertaste, and recommending drinking now through 2030. James Suckling also rated the 2020 vintage 90/100, noting very attractive sour-cherry and wild-blackberry aromas, crisp vitality and leafy freshness.

Serving & Pairing
Decanting: Open 20–30 minutes before serving; extended decanting is generally unnecessary.
Serving temperature: 14–16°C.
Food pairing: Roast chicken, duck breast, pork chop, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto, truffle pasta, charcuterie, and mild to semi-hard cheeses such as Brie, Comté or Gruyère.

Drinking Window
Enjoy from now through approximately 2028–2030. With short to mid-term bottle age, the wine should develop more savoury, earthy and spice complexity while retaining freshness.
