Background and Rarity

This whisky, released in December 2016, is Kavalan's first rum cask-aged whisky released to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Taiwanese whisky and the opening of its second distillery.

It belongs to the Distillery Reserve series and is sold exclusively at the distillery in 300ml bottles. The ABV varies depending on the batch, cask number, and bottling year; for example, versions have been seen at 55.6%, 56.3%, and 57.8%. Therefore, the 50.8% ABV you have belongs to a specific single cask batch.

Flavor Characteristics
The rum cask imparts distinct layers of molasses, honey, tropical fruit, and sweet spices to the whisky, resulting in an overall sweet, round, and full-bodied flavor, distinct from typical bourbon or sherry cask Kavalan whiskies.

Aromas: Honey, caramel, vanilla, ripe apple, pear, papaya, mango, pineapple, lemon curd, malt chocolate, and a hint of nutty.

Palate: Rich honey and molasses sweetness, with notes of melon, papaya, pineapple, banana, cloves, ginger, nutmeg, and a hint of pepper.

Finish: Medium to long, with toffee, golden raisins, mint, and mild oak spice, sweet and slightly spicy.
