Winery Introduction

La Spinetta (meaning "Top of the Hill") was founded in 1977 in Castagnole delle Lanze, Piedmont, by Giuseppe "Pin" Rivetti and his wife Lidia. The winery enjoys a high international reputation for its iconic label featuring a woodcut of a rhinoceros by the renowned German Renaissance master Albrecht Dürer.

The winery's driving force and chief winemaker, Giorgio Rivetti, along with his brother, has propelled the winery to world-class heights. They were the first in Italy to introduce a single-vineyard Moscato d'Asti and have gained global acclaim for their legendary wines, including single-vineyard Barbaresco (Gallina, Starderi, Valeirano) and top-tier Barolo Campè. The winery adheres to a philosophy of 90% vineyard farming and 10% cellar management, employing organic and biodynamic farming methods and respecting the purity of the terroir.

Timorasso and Derthona

Timorasso is the oldest native white grape variety in the Colli Tortonesi hills of southeastern Piedmont. It was nearly extinct due to its extremely difficult cultivation, until it was rediscovered by pioneering winemakers in the late 20th century. Its powerful structure, acidity, and amazing aging potential have earned it the reputation of being **"White Barolo"** or the Italian "Dry Riesling".

"Derthona" on the label is the Latin name of the town of Tortona during ancient Roman times. The regional association has registered this name as a terroir certification mark for high-quality Timorasso, exclusively for the Colli Tortonesi appellation.
