🍾 Product Background and Winemaking Process
Collection Series Innovation: Starting in 2021, Louis Roederer renamed the classic Brut Premier to the Collection series, replacing traditional naming
with "batch numbers" to highlight the uniqueness and traceability of each blend.
Batch 243 Features: Based on the 2018 vintage (approximately 60%), it is blended with reserve wines from 2012–2017, with approximately 20% of the reserve wine aged in old oak barrels, contributing complexity and depth to the wine.
Grape Origin: Grapes are carefully selected from over 20 Grand Cru and Premier Cru villages (core appellations of Côte des Blancs, Montagne de Reims, and Vallée de la Marne). Pinot Noir provides ripe stone fruit and body, Chardonnay contributes citrus freshness and minerality, and Meunier adds fruitiness and roundness.
Winemaking Process: No malolactic fermentation (Non-MLF) is used throughout the winemaking process to preserve natural acidity and pure fruit aromas.
The wine is aged on lees for approximately 3–4 years before being discarded. Dosage is approximately 8 g/L (Brut level).
👃 Tasting Notes:
Color: Bright golden yellow with shimmering silver-green hues. The bubbles are fine, dense, and persistent, like pearls.
Aroma (Nose): The aroma is complex and layered, exuding sweet fruity notes of Mirabelle Plum, candied lemon, lemon meringue, green apple, pear,
and jasmine, interwoven with deep hints of brioche, roasted nuts, honeycomb, vanilla, white pepper, flint, and chalk.
Palate: The palate is full-bodied and structured, with sweet, ripe stone fruit (mirbelle, apricot, yellow peach), candied citrus, lemon tart, and green apple flavors that are vibrant and balanced by bright acidity. The mid-palate reveals complex layers of spices (white pepper, licorice, cinnamon), crème brûlée, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, and a salty, mineral character. The mousse is creamy and smooth, possessing both power and elegance.
Finish: The finish is long and clean, leaving a lingering taste of citrus peel, roasted nuts, chalky saltiness, licorice, and slightly bitter cocoa. Overall,
it is both sweet and savory, making it a wine with great potential for food pairing.
