Phoenix Honey Orchid in the Barrel! Macallan Transforms Oolong Tea into a Wine Aroma

Scotland's premier whisky brand, The Macallan, has once again pushed the boundaries with the release of the fifth edition of its annual limited-edition The Harmony Collection. This time, instead of focusing on coffee, chocolate, or theatrical themes, the brand has collaborated with the British premium tea brand JING Tea to create a new single malt whisky inspired by two oriental teas. The flagship "Inspired by Phoenix Honey Orchid Tea" is inspired by the "Phoenix Single Bush Honey Orchid Fragrance," an oolong tea from the Fenghuang Mountains in Guangdong, China. Not only is the tea aroma infused into the barrel, but even the packaging incorporates the concept of tea re-crafting.

Matured in sherry-seasoned American oak casks, the whisky is blended with additional spirits matured in European oak and bourbon casks. The whisky reveals complex flavors of peach, apricot, tropical fruit, honey, and toffee, with a subtle tea-like aftertaste and astringency on the finish, faithfully capturing the unique liqueur notes of Phoenix Honey Orchid tea. The visual design also pays tribute to tea culture. Both the outer box and the wine label are made of recycled tea paper, continuing the Harmony series' consistent sustainable aesthetic.
