Murray McDavid Benchmark Glenallachie 2008 10 Years Old

Perched at the foot of the iconic Ben Rinnes Mountain, at Speyside's heart, lies the revived Glenallachie Distillery. Historically, this malt is used exclusively for blending. Today, this desirable spirit is once again celebrated in its pure form -a victory for the lovers of single malt Scotch whisky.

Nose: treacle toffee pudding, marzipan, dove

Palate: rum & raisin fudge, cherry, fig & walnut

Finish: banana bread, malt loaf, orange fruitcake

This hearty Speysider has matured in a combination of Sherry casks for just over decade. Originally filled into a single 600-litre Sherry butt,

our Whisky Creations Team then matured this spirit in two freshly emptied Pedro Ximénez hogsheads. After one year, the casks were reunited - a harmony of quality Spanish oak and fine Scottish spirit.

Story

It is a happy accident of history that back in the 18th Century it was discovered that scotch whisky was greatly improved when stored in oak barrels which had previously held wine and sherry . Today Murray McDavid continues to honour this long established tradition by matyring its whisky in avariety of casks that have been used to produce other fine wines and spirits.

We source sherry casks from the bodegas of spain, fortified wine casks from Maderia, port pipes from Portugal and a wide selection of wine barriques from Europe's finest vineyards. We also seek out barrels from the rum distilleries of the Caribbean and the bourbon makers of the United States. All of our casks are used to give Murray McDavid's whisky its unique qualities and diverse styles allowing us to offer a comprehensive range of inspired scotch whiskies.
