Description
Murray McDavid Benchmark Laphroaig 2001 14 Years Old #372
Followers of this famous Islay malt whisky appreciate its robust, complex flavours. Our use of a first fill bourbon cask in the maturation
process has further emphasised the inherent qualities of this fine spirit, distilled on the south shore of the Isle of Islay. On the nose there is a fresh maritime peatiness that gives way to an abundant citrus, soft almond and blueberry fusion, with subtle wafts of peach iced tea. In the mouth, its classic characteristics continue with strong malt, peat, smoke, charcoal and vanilla flavours, accompanied by a pleasant oily sweetness in the finish tradition and the art of maturation in perfect harmony.

Story
It is a happy accident of history that back in the 18th Century it was discovered that scotch whisky was greatly improved when stored in oak barrels which had previously held wine and sherry . Today Murray McDavid continues to honour this long established tradition by matyring its whisky in avariety of casks that have been used to produce other fine wines and spirits.
We source sherry casks from the bodegas of spain, fortified wine casks from Maderia, port pipes from Portugal and a wide selection of wine barriques from Europe's finest vineyards. We also seek out barrels from the rum distilleries of the Caribbean and the bourbon makers of the United States. All of our casks are used to give Murray McDavid's whisky its unique qualities and diverse styles allowing us to offer a comprehensive range of inspired scotch whiskies.
