La Rioja Alta Vina Ardanza Reserva 2015 (RP94)

La Rioja Alta Viña Ardanza Reserva 2015 is a high-value, classic "old-school barrel-aged Rioja" red wine, composed of 78% Tempranillo and 22% Garnacha, 
aged for an extended period in American oak barrels, generally rated 94-96.

Region/Winery: Rioja, Spain; Viña Ardanza, one of the flagship wines of La Rioja Alta.

Grape Composition: Approximately 78-80% Tempranillo (from Rioja Alta), 20-22% Garnacha (Rioja Oriental).

Oak Barrel Aging: Tempranillo approximately 36 months, Garnacha approximately 30 months, all in old American oak barrels, with multiple transfers/repositionings, a very traditional long-barrel aging style.

Flavor and Style: Color: Medium to high concentration of garnet/ruby red, with a cherry-colored rim.

Aroma: Red berries such as red cherry, red currant, and strawberry, along with coconut, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, cocoa, coffee, licorice, vanilla, tobacco, leather, and a slight smoky minerality; also with typical spice and balsamic notes.

Palmistry: Medium to full-bodied, with crisp acidity, smooth and fine yet supportive tannins, concentrated red and blueberry (blueberry, crushed blackberry) fruit flavors, paired with spice cake, mocha, coconut, and smoky wood notes; a long finish with licorice, spice, and ripe fruit flavors.

Ratings and Aging Potential:
Ratings: James Suckling approximately 96 points, Wine Advocate 94 points, Vinous 94 points, Decanter approximately 93 points. Generally described as one of the classic vintages, "elegant, balanced, and powerful."
