Suntory Royal “Sarusaru” 2016 Year of the Monkey Ceramic Commemorative Bottle is a zodiac-themed ceramic-bottle blended whisky released by Suntory to celebrate the 2016 Year of the Monkey (Bingshen). It uses the classic Suntory Royal as its whisky base and is presented in a hand-painted, monkey-shaped ceramic bottle, making it a Japanese whisky with value for drinking, New Year gifting, and collecting.

The 2016 Monkey edition is themed around the “lucky monkey” (fuku-zaru). Each ceramic bottle is individually shaped and hand-painted by craftsmen, depicting a monkey dressed in traditional Japanese attire and conveying festive, auspicious symbolism. In Japanese, saru (monkey) is associated phonetically with ideas of continuation and prosperity, so the bottle also carries wishes for growth and flourishing fortune.

Part of the charm of aged Whisky is its age, therefore the condition of the labels and bottles will not be perfect and may vary from one bottle to another. Most old wines use corks. This semi-permeable cork wood is flexible, but after decades of contact with wine it becomes brittle and easily breaks. It can be slowly turned out using an "Ah So" bottle opener.
