Yamazaki Refill Spanish Oak 2026
This is a single malt whiskey launched in limited quantities across Japan by Suntory Yamazaki Distilling House on November 24, 2026. The full English name is The Yamazaki Single Malt Japanese Whiskey Refill Spanish Oak. The wine is only blended with original wine matured in Refill Spanish Oak barrels, distilled in 2014 and 2015, and bottled in 2026. There is no official age indication, so it shouldn’t be called “11 years” or “12 years”.

Wine style
The official tasting information describes the wine as a reddish-brown color; the aroma is of candied fruit, dried fruit and a hint of clove herbs. It has slight acidity and sweetness in the mouth, and the finish has extended sweetness, acidity and light smoke. The overall style is lighter and more elegant than the heavy sherry cask Yamazaki, emphasizing the mild wood aroma, fruity flavor and balance brought by the refill cask.

"Refill" refers to an oak barrel that has been used for whiskey maturation at least once before being filled with new wine for maturation; "Spanish Oak" refers to a Spanish oak barrel. The selling point of this wine is not the rich, sweet ripeness of heavy sherry, but the more delicate barrel aging layer, fruity flavor and mild woodiness. The official number of bottles has not been announced, only "limited quantity".
