Lanson Clos Lanson Single Vineyard 2007 is a rare, top-tier single-vineyard cuvée from the renowned Champagne estate Lanson. It comes from Clos Lanson, a walled vineyard on the roof of the Lanson estate, an extremely rare example of a closed vineyard in the heart of Reims. With an annual production of approximately 7,000 bottles, it is highly collectible.
Region and Vineyard: Clos Lanson, a walled vineyard in Reims, Champagne, France. The chalky slopes are completely surrounded by city buildings, giving it a highly distinctive terroir.
Grapes and Style: 100% Chardonnay (Blanc de Blancs), Extra Brut, approximately 3 g/L, exhibiting an exceptionally clean, mineral-dominated top-tier style.
Winemaking: Partially fermented and aged in Argonne oak barrels, followed by extensive lees aging. The 2007 vintage was disgorged around 2020, and bottle-aged for over 10 years before release, resulting in exceptionally fine bubbles and complex layers.
Vintage and Aromas: 2007 was a year of significant climatic contrasts, but Clos Lanson, thanks to its superior terroir and extremely rigorous selection, produced an elegant and concentrated wine, described by many critics as "generous, open, and at its peak."
Aromas: In its youth, it is dominated by white flowers, hawthorn, and white peach, evolving over time to reveal more complex aromas such as orange blossom, gardenia, roasted grains, roasted hazelnuts, caramel, and dark chocolate.
Palmistry: Fine, dense bubbles complement a full-bodied, medium-high texture. On the palate, there are notes of lemon, green apple, white peach, and honey nuts, with a noticeable chalky minerality.
Aged in oak barrels and on lees for an extended period, the wine develops layers of cream, pastry, caramel, and spice, while maintaining a crisp acidity and high precision, possessing both power and definition.
Finish: Extremely long, with notes of hazelnut, pastry, dark chocolate, and a hint of salt; elegant and persistent, best enjoyed as the temperature gradually rises to reveal subtle nuances.
Serving Suggestions: Serving: Recommended at 10–12°C, using a white wine glass rather than a narrow flute to allow for fuller aroma release, especially important for a high-end cuvée like the aged 2007.
Pairing: Lobster, main courses with cream or seafood sauce, pan-seared foie gras, caviar, or delicate French cuisine such as truffle chicken or cream-baked morel mushrooms best complement its complex pastry, nutty, and mineral notes.
