Paolo Saracco Moscato d’Asti DOCG 2024 is a quintessential and considered "textbook" Moscato d’Asti, characterized by its aromatic, low-alcohol, slightly effervescent, and highly balanced sweetness and acidity.
Region: Piemonte, Italy, Asti DOCG. Grapes sourced from the slopes of Castiglione Tinella and Santo Stefano Belbo, all from old vines of Moscato Bianco Canelli.
Variety and Alcohol Content: 100% Moscato Bianco, approximately 5.5–6% ABV, a slightly effervescent (frizzante) sweet white.
After harvesting, it is gently pressed using air pressure, extracting only the outermost aromatic juice. It is then chilled at a low temperature (approximately -3°C) without fermentation, and fermentation is initiated only in batches according to market demand, ensuring "super fresh" conditions for bottling throughout the year.
Fermentation is carried out in a stainless steel pressurized tank at a controlled temperature, preserving natural sugars. Low-pressure microbubbles are used, and the product is immediately bottled after filtration to lock in aroma and freshness.
Flavor Characteristics:
Appearance: Pale straw yellow with a hint of green, fine and dense microbubbles, visually refreshing and light.
Aroma: A very exuberant blend of orange blossom, white flowers, white peach, apricot, and pear, accompanied by herbs such as sage, thyme, and mint, and accented with tropical fruits like lychee and passion fruit.
Palmistry: Sweet but not cloying on the palate, with bright flavors of white peach, apricot, lychee, and citrus peel.
The acidity tension is excellent, complementing the gentle bubbles and creating a well-rounded sweetness. The finish has refreshing mineral and floral notes, with a long and lingering sweetness.
Wine Enthusiast: 93 points for the 2024 vintage, calling it "a masterclass in why Moscato d’Asti is so captivating."
Multiple international platforms have positioned Saracco as the "benchmark brand of Moscato d'Asti," serving as a benchmark for similar wines.
Food and Occasion Pairing:
Pairs well with desserts such as fruit tarts, cream cakes, cookies, ice cream, and puddings; it also creates a "sweet + salty + moldy" contrast with blue cheeses like Gorgonzola; spicy Asian dishes, sushi, and crepes also pair well.
