Description
Karuizawa's 35th View, "Hiroto Densetsu" (People Climbing Mount Fuji), is the 35th single cask whisky in the "36 Views of Mount Fuji" series released by the now-defunct legendary Japanese distillery Karuizawa between 2015 and 2021. The label design uses "Hiroto Densetsu" from Katsushika Hokusai's famous ukiyo-e print "36 Views of Mount Fuji" as its motif, symbolizing ascetics climbing the rocks of Mount Fuji and representing the ultimate expression of Karuizawa's single cask craftsmanship.

🏔️ Series Background and Design Concept

The 36 Views of Mount Fuji series comprises 36 editions, each featuring a scene from Katsushika Hokusai's ukiyo-e print series, showcasing the magnificent scenery of Mount Fuji from different seasons, weather conditions, and perspectives.

Scene 35, "The Ascent of Mount Fuji," depicts a group of ascetics (Fujiko devotees) dressed in traditional robes and carrying vajrasana (thirteen sacred stupas) climbing Mount Fuji and circumambulating the crater of fire (Ohachi-zuri). It is the only entry in the "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji" series to focus on the summit of Mount Fuji and is considered the final chapter of the series.

Symbolic Meaning: The ascetics climbing the rugged, rocky Mount Fuji symbolizes Karuizawa Distillery's ascent to the pinnacle of the whisky world before its closure in 2011, achieved through its exceptional craftsmanship of single cask whisky, high-aged whisky, and sherry cask aging.
