Description
Bowmore 18 Year Old Sherry Oak Cask is a 2025 release from Bowmore's Sherry Oak Cask Collection, an Islay single malt whisky. It was matured for 18 years in American oak bourbon casks and European oak Oloroso sherry casks, and finished in Pedro Ximénez (PX) sherry casks, bottled at 43% ABV. It is neither a single cask nor a pure sherry cask whisky, but rather a three-stage cask aging process: bourbon + Oloroso + PX Finish.

Style: Aromas include dark chocolate, cocoa beans, honey, toffee, orange peel, pineapple, candied fruit, and subtle hints of sea breeze and peat. On the palate, this is a medium to full-bodied wine with a smooth texture and ripe fruit flavors. Orange peel, raisins, cocoa beans, star anise, and sweet spices unfold gradually, with Bowmore's signature gentle peaty smoke throughout, without overpowering the fruit.

The PX Finish offers a more pronounced dried fruit sweetness and roundness, while Oloroso provides nutty, woody spices and a dry structure. The finish features dark chocolate, a touch of bitter orange peel, oak, and gentle smoke, with a long and balanced finish. The IWSC tasting notes describe it as having honey, toffee, gentle peat, dried fruit, sweet spices, and a lingering smoky finish.
