Description
Bruichladdich Octomore Edition 17.2 is an "experimental version" of the 17 series: using the same 100% Scottish Concerto barley and 81.0 PPM peated as 17.1, but aged in French oak casks before finishing in first-fill port casks, it has an ABV of 59.5% and is aged for 5 years.

The selling point of 17.2 is the balance between peat and port cask fruit aromas: the port cask amplifies blackberry, red fruit, and spice notes, while the Octomore's grain sweetness, pepper, and peated structure remain clear. Officially described as having "a more restrained smokiness on the nose, yet still possessing a deep smokiness in its structure," it is a rich, vibrant, and tightly structured heavily peated whisky.

Nose: Summer fruits and dark berries, complemented by pepper and earthy peated smoke.

Palate: Initial sweetness of blackcurrant and strawberry, gradually rising with peat and citrus highlights.

Finish: Pepper, earthy smoke, hibiscus, and lime oil.
