Notes
From dry, slightly sweet to sweet white wine, Robert Weil used Rheingau grapes to create the taste of varietes of charming flavors. All of which have won 90+ points from wine critics , which became the favorites of many sommeliers. The wines produced by the winery were famous of elegance, delicacy and long-lasting. Teacher Liu Yong Zhi had also mentioned in his book "Legend of the Top Winery 2": "Although Robert Weil Winery is not the one with the longest history of winemaking in the Rhineland-Palatinate region of Germany, judging by the quality of its wine it is definitely the king of Rhineland-Palatinate wines!
Story
The founder, Dr. Robert Weil, was a German professor at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of the University of Paris. In 1875, he founded the vineyard winery and began to produce wine. In the late 19th century, the white wine of this winery became popular among the major European royal families. In the next 100 years, the Weil family expanded the vineyards everywhere, and the winery also developed vigorously. After 1970, the Weil family sold the winery to the Suntory group, while the family itself only retained a small share. The winery is now jointly managed by the Suntory Group and Wilhelm Weil, the fourth generation of the family. Currently, the Robert Weir Winery vineyard covers an area of 65 hectares. The grape varieties planted in the garden are 98% Riesling and 2% Pinot Noir. The average age of the grapevines is 25 years, and the planting density is 5,000-6,000 plants/hectare. Currently, 98% of the winery’s area is planted with Riesling grapes, including Grafsberg, one of Germany’s top vineyards. Gräfenberg!
The winery strictly implements various viticultural techniques, including pruning, thinning, defoliation and stimulating air circulation in the vineyard. All vineyards are cultivated organically and no herbicides are used.
In terms of winemaking, the grapes are pressed together in clusters, and fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks with controlled temperature. The size of the tank depends on the size of the vineyard. All wines are bottled in late spring of the following year to retain the main fruit characteristics and freshness.
